Statistics consulting

We offer consulting services that evaluate the statistics procedures in your organisation: research design (e.g: hunting pseudo-replication, power and sample size estimation), planned analyses (e.g.: right statistical procedures for your data), and reporting (e.g: guidance on data visualization, quantitative reporting).

Building on our workshops and lectures, we also provide a service designed in response to students frequently requesting follow-up statistical guidance in their research. We offer targeted mentoring for students, especially ⎻but not restricted to⎻ those in the critical first or second years of their doctorate.

Overview of the process

Diagnostics

In this initial step, we familiarize ourselves with your statistics procedures (research designs, replication, sample sizes, analysis methods, usual reporting and presentation, transparency), and we begin identifying any potentially key components. We also make sure our domain of expertise matches your scientific domain and procedures. This typically require one or two meetings.

Interim meetings

During these meetings, we precisely review the details of your designs, pipelines and publications. We make sure we have a comprehensive and correct understanding of your activities and quantitative approaches.

Final report and guidance

We issue a detailed and documented report that highlights the critical statistics components of your activities and the suggestions for improvement.

Personal guidance

The meetings are 1-3 hour long discussions covering various issues including:

  • Study design optimisation
  • Planning of future analyses
  • Critical assessment of the literature
  • Interim evaluation of past analyses
  • Result interpretation
  • Study limitations
  • Data presentation
  • Publication strategy
  • Open data
  • Review of draft manuscripts
  • Responses to reviewers
