Our seminars on statistics or ethics in AI are bootcamp workshops, typically limited to 15-30 participants and usually organised as one-day events. They address specific issues, and aim at bringing solutions immediately operable in your work setting.

A one-day immersive and intensive practical workshop exploring the ethical and legal use of general-purpose large language models (gLLM, eg. Chat-GPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot) in scientific research. The morning is dedicated to discovering ethical and legal stakes of gLLM in research, with numerous case studies included. The afternoon is a full workshop where participants will use insights from the morning to design and review good practice white paper guidelines. The seminar is particularly tailored to life scientists, from industry and academia. Prerequisites: a previous experience in using AI chatbots is helpful but not absolutely mandatory; no technical expertise in machine learning or data science is required. NB: The workshop will not directly address prompt or context engineering (apart from the additional material provided).

Identify the ethical and legal risks of using general-purpose LLMs in research and recognize where they arise across the research lifecycle.

Apply the Swiss and EU legal framework (notably nLPD, HRA) to concrete gLLM use cases in clinical and non-clinical settings.

Distinguish individual responsibility from organizational governance, and determine who is accountable when a gLLM contributes to a research.

Draft a robust, compliance-ready white paper setting gLLM guidelines tailored to a specific organizational context.

Critically audit gLLM guidelines (your own and others') to spot weaknesses in confidentiality, consent, and transparency before they surface in retractions or an audits.
